A Blackburn woman is hosting a free Christmas dinner this afternoon (December 10) to help people and bring the community together.

In the spirit of giving this festive season, Carol Davies, owner of The Clifton Arms in Grimshaw Park, is inviting local residents to join her free Christmas lunch at 3pm on Sunday.

The community Christmas lunch was made possible through the kindness of three generous customers who donated money to buy meat, and the Woods Fruit and Vegetable Stall in Darwin also donated Christmas ingredients.

“We are so grateful to everyone who supported us in putting this together,” Carroll said.

“Everyone is welcome to the meal, whether you are alone and want to spend time with people, we don’t judge. Anyone can come and enjoy a warm meal.

“People can come to the pub alone and leave with new friends. Our message is that there are no strangers here, just friends we haven’t met yet.”

“Times are tough right now, so it’s important to have a strong community. We know people are struggling, so we want to help where we can and make the community a better place.”

The event is expected to seat about 40 people and any leftover meals will be packed if no one can get a seat. There will be live entertainment and a raffle at the event.

This community Christmas lunch comes just days after the pub served free fish and chips dinners on December 8 thanks to patron Teresa Goldson and the Old Mill Hill Chippy in New Chapel Street.
