When customers realized the crew was working to help in the storm, they stood, clapped and cheered to show their appreciation.

SCARBOROUGH, Maine — A power crew was gratefully welcomed into a Scarborough restaurant Saturday evening after a long day of work helping in the storm.

After their work for the day, a group of 30 or so workers from Holland Power Services visited Ken’s Place Seafood Restaurant in Scarborough. When customers realized the group was working to help weather this storm, they stood, clapped and cheered to show their appreciation.

Within three minutes, restaurant manager Jillian St. Louis said customers quickly accumulated enough cash to pay for the entire set.

“One of our regular customers came up to me within three minutes of showing up, literally handed me a wad of cash and said, ‘All the customers have their money together. They want to pay for all their meals,” St. Louis said.

St. Louis said the crew was very grateful but politely declined the free meals. Instead, they asked that the money go to two fundraisers the restaurant was holding for local charities.

“No one had to do that,” St. Louis said. “Just the clapping and cheering was enough. The fact that they wanted to take money out of their pockets to do something like this was beyond the pale.”

Central Maine Power Company hired Holland Power Services from Canada to assist with the storm. A CMP spokesperson said the company also plans to donate to charities in Kane’s fundraising efforts.
