To raise money and donations for the “I Support Delaware Girls” campaign, the “Lunch with a Purpose” campaign kicked off the 2023-24 series with a sold-out luncheon at the Clubhouse in Baywood Greens.

Cheryl Mitchell, Director of Lunch with a Purpose/Coastal Delaware, welcomed attendees back for another year and thanked everyone for the success of last season. Mitchell introduced What Is Your Voice’s Jacqueline Sterbach to briefly talk about the group’s first event. The Butterfly Bolt Walk, a walk in support of domestic violence survivors, will be held on Friday, October 6 in Rehoboth Beach. The next speaker was Linda Willimer, Director of the I Support Girls Delaware Chapter. ISTG is new in southern Delaware as of 2023 but began operating by collecting underwear and menstrual products from manufacturers, through community drives and local retail stores. These donated items were distributed to people in need, giving dignity to those making difficult choices between purchasing food and needed products, and allowing girls to go to school every day by providing essentials. ISTG distributes items to the Pastor’s Office, Epworth United Methodist Church, Giving Vault and others. For more information about ISTG, email istg.delaware@gmail.com.

The luncheon raised $9,000 for ISTG as well as an estimated $2,000 in in-kind donations. Donations to the Food Bank of Delaware totaled 1,051 pounds of food.

The Fostering Wishes Foundation will be the beneficiary of the LWAP event on Wednesday, October 4 at Signatures at Bayside.
