50 Top Pizza has released its annual list of the best pizzerias in the world and the only winner in the Bay Area has been selected.
Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco ranked 19th on the World’s 100 Best Pizzerias list. Tony’s was among the few American pizzerias in the rankings and the only California restaurant recognized in the report.
50 Top Pizza celebrated Tony’s Pizza Napoletana chef-owner, Tony Gemignani, for mastering the techniques behind preparing a range of pies that include styles from Naples to New York.
“Tony Gimignani is a proven and traditional point of reference for those looking for quality pizza in the USA,” wrote 50 Top Pizza. “Great attention is paid to details, above all, the fermentation time of all our pizzas.” The organization highly recommended two pizzas: Uncle Vito’s pizza, with caramelized onions, ricotta, bacon and pesto, found in the Classic American section of Tony’s menu, and the Capodimonte pizza, topped with mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes and basil, in the Napoletana section.
In June, Tony was ranked No. 4 in the US Top 50 Pizza rankings, while his Pizza Rock restaurant in Las Vegas ranked No. 18. In recognition of these accolades, Gemignani was honored with the Performance of the Year award in the rankings. . It also received the Best Performance Award in the American classification, due to the presence of two restaurants in the same category.
